Being at UP library has made me realise even more that a library
is not only a place to borrow books, study quietly and leave when you are done.
But I have discovered that it is actually a place to be creative, to do research,
innovative, a place where students can come and do their work in a relaxed
environment.
The services I will implement to
my library (UKZN) will be the makerspace, mobile technologies, and promote
technology in libraries. Though it is going to be a challenge in acquiring
funds in starting a makerspace but I have to work hard for it to be a success.
Selling the idea to the schools and library stakeholders will be my starting
point. Our library is operating in an old way library used to operate, as a
librarian I have to be information technology literate.
We have to change the whole perception in
librarians mindset, libraries are evolving and we need to keep ourselves up to
these standards. Majority of our clients are "born-frees" and
technology is a second nature to them, so we need to accommodate them and make
these services available to them so that they will use the library to the
fullest.
UP library has inspired me and gave
me moral to change the libraries in University of KwaZulu Natal.
